Why do nitrogen systems need regular maintenance?
PSA (pressure swing adsorption) nitrogen generator uses carbon molecular sieve as adsorbent, and uses the principle of pressure adsorption and decompression desorption to adsorb and release oxygen from the air to separate nitrogen.
Carbon molecular sieve is a kind of columnar granular adsorbent full of micropores on the surface and inside, which is made of coal as the main raw material after grinding, oxidation, molding, carbonization and processing through a special pore type treatment process. It is black. The pore size distribution of carbon molecular sieve allows different gases to diffuse into the pores of the molecular sieve at different rates without repelling any gas in the mixed gas (air). The separation effect of carbon molecular sieve on O2 and N2 is based on the slight difference in the dynamic diameter of the two gases. The dynamic diameter of the O2 molecule is small, so there is a faster diffusion rate in the micropores of the carbon molecular sieve; The kinetic diameter is larger and thus the diffusion rate is slower. The diffusion of water and CO2 in compressed air is not much different from that of oxygen, while the diffusion of argon is slower. The mixture of N2 and Ar is finally enriched from the adsorption tower. After long-term use, the micropore diameter of carbon molecular sieve will change; if the compressed air contains moisture and oil, it will also affect the micropore diameter of carbon molecular sieve, thereby affecting the nitrogen production performance and reducing the purity of nitrogen. Therefore, the nitrogen production system, especially the compressed air pretreatment system (air compressor, refrigerated dryer, three-stage high-efficiency filter, high-efficiency oil removal filter, etc.) needs regular maintenance.
